Purpose

This window is used to create user materials that do not (yet) exist in the PCC materials database or need to be different than existing PCC materials. All material properties can be entered and changed here. The user materials are available for all pipeclasses and projects in the active .pccb projects file. User materials from a different .pccb file can not be copied. The user materials have the purpose to be temporary and are only usable for the current PCC version. Red-Bag is not responsible for calculations made with user materials. Please send a request to Red-Bag about missing materials. 

The user materials will be joined with the PCC materials when selecting a material for a component or component type. For further information on material selection see PCC material selection window

Description

The values of the user material properties must be entered according the selected unit system with metric SI units or US costumary units. For further information on units see PCC unit selection window. An user material can get all material properties by copying from a (tabular) source and pasting to the fields in the tables. For new materials and new stresses, first empty rows must be created. 

The following data fields are available:

  • 'User Material List', the list of user defined materials in the active .pccb projects file. The table columns are the material properties. Use the buttons to add, remove, copy and save the user materials. Use the search filter to narrow the amount of user materials for editing.
  • 'Details', tab sheet with detailed information.
    • 'Material properties'. The properties can be changed here and are synchronised with the properties in the upper list.
    • 'Material Document Issue Note List', a list of notes about requirements and limits for application. Use the columns to enter information about the source of the material properties. 
  • 'Yield/Tensile', tab sheet with several tables with proof stresses at elevated temperatures. Use the buttons to add or remove fields for the stress values at temperature.
    • 'Yield stresses (0.2% proof strength)'
    • 'Yield stresses (1.0% proof strength)'
    • 'Tensile stresses (Ultimate strength)'
  • 'ASME II part D allow.', tab sheet with several tables with allowable stresses at elevated temperatures. 
    • 'ASME II part D table 1A, 1B, 3 for ASME VIII div.1 / XII' for ferrous or non-ferrous or bolting materials. These tables use the same table view here for the calculation codes ASME section VIII div.1 and ASME section XII.
      • 'table 1A', maximum allowable stress values for ferrous materials.
      • 'table 1B', maximum allowable stress values for non-ferrous materials.
      • 'table 3', maximum allowable stress values for bolting materials. Use a different user material when a bolting material has different allowable stresses than the base material. For example when a bolting material is made of bar or rod material.
    • 'ASME II part D table 2A, 2B for ASME III / VIII div.2' for ferrous or non-ferrous materials. These tables use the same table view here for the calculation codes ASME section III and ASME section VIII div.2 class 1. 
      • 'table 2A', maximum allowable stress values for ferrous materials.
      • 'table 2B', maximum allowable stress values for non-ferrous materials.
  • 'ASME B31.X allow.', tab sheet with several tables with allowable stresses at elevated temperatures.
    • 'ASME B31.1' for ferrous or non-ferrous or bolting materials. These tables use the same table view here for the calculation code ASME B31.1. 
      • 'Table A-1',  maximum allowable stress values for carbon steel.
      • 'Table A-2',  maximum allowable stress values for low and intermediate alloy steel.
      • 'Table A-3',  maximum allowable stress values for stainless steel.
      • 'Table A-4',  maximum allowable stress values for nickel and high nickel alloys. 
      • 'Table A-5',  maximum allowable stress values for cast iron.
      • 'Table A-6',  maximum allowable stress values for copper and copper alloys. 
      • 'Table A-7',  maximum allowable stress values for aluminum and aluminum alloys. 
      • 'Table A-8',  maximum allowable stress values for temperatures 1200 F and above. 
      • 'Table A-9',  maximum allowable stress values for titanium and titanium alloys. 
      • 'Table A-10',  maximum allowable stress values for bolts, nuts and studs. 
    • 'ASME B31.3 Table A-1, A-4' for ferrous or non-ferrous or bolting materials. These tables use the same table view here for the calculation code ASME B31.3.
      • 'Table A-1',  basic allowable stress values for metals. 
      • 'Table A-4', design stress values for bolting materials
    • 'ASME B31.3 Table K-1' for ferrous or non-ferrous materials. This table is for the calculation code ASME B31.3 Chapter IX. This part is for high pressure purposes. 
    • 'ASME B31.12' for ferrous or non-ferrous or bolting materials. These tables use the same table view here for the calculation code ASME B31.12.
      • 'Table IX-1A',  basic allowable stress values for metals. 
      • 'Table IX-4', design stress values for bolting materials
  • 'ASME B31.4/8 dummy', tab sheet with several tables without allowable stresses.
    • 'ASME B31.4 (dummy)', only one empty record is needed to indicate that the material can be used in ASME B31.4.
    • 'ASME B31.8 (dummy)', only one empty record is needed to indicate that the material can be used in ASME B31.8.

NOTES:

  1. The user must enter stresses at elevated temperatures for the required design temperatures and calculation codes. PCC needs these stresses to be able to make calculations. PCC uses linear interpolation, but no extrapolation, to determine intermediate stresses.
  2. Not all tables must have stresses to make calculations for a pipe class.
  3. The calculation codes ASME B31.4 and ASME B31.8 do not need allowable stresses. They only need an indication that the material may be used.

For each calculation code different stresses are needed. Depending on the calculation code, the stresses must be entered in the following tables:

  • EN 13480, enter values for the tables 'Yield stresses (0.2% proof)', 'Yield stresses (1.0% proof)', 'Tensile stresses'.
  • EN 13445, enter values for the tables 'Yield stresses (0.2% proof)', 'Yield stresses (1.0% proof)', 'Tensile stresses'.
  • EN 1594, enter values for the tables 'Yield stresses (0.2% proof)', 'Yield stresses (1.0% proof)', 'Tensile stresses'.
  • RToD, enter values for the tables 'Yield stresses (0.2% proof)', 'Yield stresses (1.0% proof)', 'Tensile stresses'.
  • ASME III, enter values for the table 'ASME II part D table 2A, 2B'.
  • ASME VIII div.1, enter values for the table 'ASME II part D table 1A, 1B, 3'.
  • ASME VIII div.2, enter values for the table 'ASME II part D table 2A, 2B'.
  • ASME XII, enter values for the table 'ASME II part D table 1A, 1B, 3'.
  • ASME B31.1, enter values for the table 'ASME B31.1'
  • ASME B31.3, enter values for the table 'ASME B31.3 Table A-1, A-4'.
  • ASME B31.3 Chapter IX, enter values for the table 'ASME B31.3 Table K-1'. This table is used for high pressure purposes.
  • ASME B31.4, enter one empty record in table 'ASME B31.4 (dummy)'.
  • ASME B31.8, enter one empty record in table 'ASME B31.8 (dummy)'.
  • ASME B31.12, enter values for the table 'ASME B31.12'.

The buttons at the bottom are:

  • 'Help' button to show this help page.
  • 'OK' button to close the dialog and save the data.
  • 'Cancel' button to close the dialog without saving the data.
